Job Description

Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care.

Which is why we are investing over £2billion into construction projects over the next five years to improve the services we provide.

Within our Capital Design and Delivery department, we are looking for a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join our Wastewater Infrastructure team based in Derby.

Are you an experienced Design Engineer, who has experience leading the development of wastewater infrastructure schemes?

Well, if you are, read on.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

We take around 3.1 billion litres of wastewater away from homes and businesses every day, including drainage from highways and public spaces. We have approximately 93,000km of sewers and over 1000 sewage treatment works within the Severn Trent Water region treating flows from hamlets through to some of Britain’s largest cities. Our Design Team uses their technical skills to shape the wastewater strategies for the company; providing expert advice and capability to lead projects from feasibility through to detailed design to support the Severn Trent goals. You will work with our stakeholders, consultants and contractors to extend and enhance our wastewater network assets to serve our communities and protect our rivers.

Reporting to the Design Manager, the Senior Design Engineer will provide design solutions for wastewater infrastructure schemes. You will undertake feasibility, optioneering and design of projects to agreed timescales and budgets and undertake the role of Principal Designer in accordance with CDM regulations.

The Senior Design Engineer will drive H&S through design, undertake risk management, challenge standards and ensure that appropriate support is provided to the Delivery and Commercial Teams so that projects are delivered safely, efficiently and on time.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

For these design engineer roles, we want to attract those with the right experience but we also value character, positivity, and a caring attitude in equal weight.

You will have experience of working with a diverse team with different skillsets and building capability and mentoring other engineers. You will have a thorough understanding of implementing the CDM regulations throughout the project lifecycle and have a strong understanding of risk management in construction and design.

You will have excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people. You will be a forward thinking innovator, capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment. You will be able to make educated judgments and decisions in the face of ambiguity and have a good grasp of the bigger picture, seeking opportunities to contribute to the wider agenda.

Senior design engineers will be expected to demonstrate a range of project / programme management skills and have a track record of collaborative working with partner organisations and stakeholders.
